Description

Shimano has designed the SW-M8150 XT Di2 shifter, shown here in the version for I-Spec EV mounting on a compatible brake lever, specifically for E-trekking bikes and E-MTBs with 1x10-speed or 1x11-speed electronic shifting, Linkglide drivetrain and Automatic Shift. However, it can also be used on e-mountainbikes with a conventional 1x11-speed or 1x12-speed electronic drivetrain, provided the EP801 or EP6 motor is installed. It cannot be used on bikes without one of these motors.

The shifter has a total of three buttons. Two of them are designed as paddle shifters, the angle of which can be very flexibly fine-tuned using a 3 mm hexagon socket. This allows you to adapt the design to the ergonomics of your hand. As standard, you use the paddle shifters to move the rear derailleur outwards or inwards and the additional button allows you to switch between automatic and manual gear changes. However, all switch assignments can be changed via the E-Tube platform. You also have the option of shifting several gears at once by holding down a button. Thanks to the smooth operation and good accessibility, you can shift gears more effortlessly and precisely and focus on the path or trail ahead of you.
SW-M8150 is attached to the clamp of a brake lever with I-Spec EV mount on the right-hand side of the MTB handlebars. Thanks to I-Spec EV, you have extended adjustment options in the longitudinal and rotational direction, making the cockpit even more ergonomic. The connection to the Di2 e-bike system is made via the newer EW-SD300 cable type.

Digital Integrated Intelligence (Di2)
Di2 systems are Shimano's electronic shifting systems. They are based on the SEIS, the Shimano Electronic Intelligent System, which takes over the index shifting function from the mechanical components, only via power cables or radio signals and not via a Bowden cable. Shifting is done by simply pressing a button. This has the advantage that no great effort is required, your concentration on the ride is not disturbed and operation is easy, even with cold hands, for example. In addition, the electronic gear changes are very fast and highly precise. There is also no risk of defective shifting due to dirty cables or the like. The E-Tube platform, the so-called. E-Tube Project, you can make individual settings, such as adjusting the shifting speed, the number of shifting operations per button press or the synchro or semi-synchro shifting function. Shimano offers an app for this purpose. Maintenance of the gears and firmware updates are also carried out via E-Tube, whereby the bike is connected to a PC with the corresponding E-Tube software for more extensive workshop work.

Auto Shift
Auto Shift - or in the long form "Automatic Shift" - is a shifting technology for e-bikes with Shimano EP8 and EP6 series motors. As the name suggests, it enables automatic gear changes based on a continuous analysis of sensor data such as cadence, torque and speed. Based on this, the system selects the right gear for you and all you have to do is concentrate on the route ahead. Auto Shift has the advantage of smoother, stress-free and comfortable pedaling for trekking, city biking and MTB use. It helps you to master the transitions between uphill and downhill, to maintain the flow or to get going again after stopping. If you prefer to shift gears manually, you can easily deactivate the shift assistance from the handlebars. It is also possible to change gears manually at any time, the so-called "Manual Override".

I-Spec EV
I-Spec EV describes a variant of the connection between the brake lever and shift lever on MTB drivetrains from Shimano. This type of mounting makes it possible to adjust the shifter both horizontally and vertically in relation to the brake lever and ensures a tidy cockpit as it reduces the number of clamps required. I-Spec EV offers a significantly larger adjustment range compared to I-Spec and I-Spec II. 14 mm adjustment travel in the longitudinal direction and up to 60° rotation enable optimum ergonomic adjustment to your riding style, sitting position and anatomy.
