Innovation fireworks from the Far East! With the XTR M9100, Shimano presents its most versatile MTB groupset. While the first generations of XTR racing groupsets were developed for the needs of XC racers, the concept of MTB racing is now much broader. With a wide range of options, everyone from enduro racers to marathon riders can put together their own XTR M9100 drivetrain to suit their needs.

At first glance, the BL-M9100 brake lever has hardly changed from its predecessor. From a technical point of view, the master piston and the mechanics have also been largely adopted from the M9000. However, the suspension of the lever has been fundamentally revised. The wider clamp in the middle of the lever not only creates more space for attaching remote levers, it also offers significantly more rigidity. In combination with a support for the master piston on the handlebars, the brake lever offers a much more direct braking feel. According to Shimano, this design has increased stiffness and braking force by 10% and achieved a 30% faster response. The reach of the lever can be adjusted for optimum accessibility.

Thanks to a revised cable system and the use of magnesium (housing) and carbon (lever), the weight of the 2-piston version has been reduced by 26 grams compared to the previous version. The brake caliper of the M9100 has a one-piece aluminum design, which has better thermal properties than magnesium.

We developed the hydraulic two-piston disc brake for XC riders for whom every gram counts. We have made it 26 grams lighter. It brakes even more powerfully and has become even stiffer and more responsive.

J-Kit (Easy Hose Joint System)

In brake systems with a J-Kit brake hose connection, the brake lever has an integrated crush seal (olive), which makes installing and removing the brake hose much easier.

Shimano XTR BL-M9100 brake lever

Based on a brake system that was already the measure of all things among mountain bike brake systems, Shimano engineers revised the design of the XTR M9100 brake levers. Both the clamp and the lever body itself have been modified for the BL-M9100 levers. The clamp moves further into the center of the lever and is angled. As a result, the outer end of the reservoir is supported directly on the handlebars in a clever way and creates an additional abutment when the lever is actuated.

This significantly increases rigidity and stability, which ultimately leads to an even more direct braking feel and better controllability. The BL-M9100 is also 10 % stiffer than its predecessor. The grip width of the lightweight XC brake lever with a magnesium housing can also be individually adjusted. Thanks to the I-Spec EV design, the XTR SL-M9100-I shift levers can be mounted directly on the brake lever.

Shimano XTR BR-M9100 disc brake caliper

The Shimano XTR BR-M9100 brake caliper has a one-piece aluminum construction and, in combination with high-stiffness brake hoses, ensures a significantly faster response and less free travel of the entire brake system. The K02Ti resin brake pads with titanium backing plates or the K04S metal brake pads in conjunction with the 2-piston brake caliper guarantee extremely good deceleration and low weight.
